Maiduguri Police Station Attacked by Suspected Repentant Insurgents, One Killed

A deadly attack on a police station in Maiduguri, Borno State, has left one person dead and several others injured. The attack, carried out by suspected repentant Boko Haram insurgents, occurred at the Ibrahim Taiwo Police Headquarters along Baga Road.

According to eyewitnesses, the attackers, dressed in military uniforms and armed with dangerous weapons, stormed the police station in an attempt to free some of their members who had been arrested during a drug raid at a notorious black spot known as Kasuwan Fara. The raid was carried out by operatives of the Joint Task Force, who arrested several suspects engaged in drugs and other outlawed activities.

The attackers, who also displayed weapons at Barka Da Zuwa, a known criminal hotspot, killed one person and injured several others. A joint task force operation was launched the next day, leading to the arrest of suspects at the scene of the crime.State Commissioner for Information and Internal Security, Professor Usman Tar, confirmed the incident and assured that normalcy will be restored. He stated that the police and other security agencies are aware of the security situation and are working to address it.

However, the Police Commissioner, Mohammadu Yusufu, denied knowledge of the murder at Barka Da Zuwa, while the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Daso, confirmed the raid and attack on the police station, NDLEA, and immigration checkpoint.
