Police arrest three suspects who allegedly robbed, macheted DPO in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has apprehended three individuals suspected of armed robbery and assault against a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Alausa Ikeja, CSP Tokunbo Abaniwonda, using a machete. SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the command’s Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.

Hundeyin explained that on April 9, around 11:00 p.m., officers from the Alausa division were conducting a sting operation at Otedola Bridge, Alausa Ikeja. During their operation, a group of three suspected armed robbers emerged from hiding and launched a sudden attack on the DPO Alausa using cutlasses and other dangerous weapons.

He further revealed that the suspects also stole Abaniwonda’s Samsung S22 phone before fleeing to an unknown location.“Subsequently, on April 13, around 10:00 a.m., intelligence indicated that the suspects were hiding at a hotel in the Akute area of Ajuwon Ogun. Acting on this information, the anti-crime team of the division swiftly moved to the location and arrested a 29-year-old suspect, known as ‘THUG LIFE,’ who was identified as the ringleader of the group.

“Another suspect, aged 25, was apprehended alongside the ringleader in the hotel. They were brought to the police station for further investigation along with the exhibits recovered from them,” Hundeyin stated.

He also mentioned that the investigation revealed how the suspects forcefully took the handset from the DPO after assaulting her with a machete on her back.“Further inquiry uncovered that the ringleader had been involved in robberies on Otedola Bridge for the past five years, consistently changing his accomplices for each operation,” he added.
