A woman who died after getting tangled up in an airport baggage claim conveyor belt has been identified and pictured.

Virginia Vinton, 57, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, was found dead in a baggage carousel chute by a Chicago O’Hare International Airport worker on August 8.

Vinton’s manner of death was hanging and asphyxiation and she was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. She died by suicide, according to authorities.

She was found by a Delta Air Lines luggage handler ‘entangled in a conveyor belt system in a baggage room’ in Terminal 5.

In a picture released by Wycliffe Ministry, Vinton appears smiling and standing next to her husband Jim Vinton and their daughters Abby Vinton and Emily Vinton.

She was a missionary and a mother-of-two, the Daily Mail reported.

Her and her husband’s Wycliffe Ministry profile states that they lived in Mozambique, East Africa, for 12 years ‘where they worked on two translation projects, Chuwabu and Sena’.

It states that they were serving in Africa, the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Pacific, and that their children are named Abby and Emily.

According to the page, Jim became a translation consultant doing the final check on translated scriptures before they went to print. It states that he works remotely from North Carolina and travels to other parts of the world. It does not provide further details on his wife’s work.

‘Join Jim and Virginia in communicating God’s Truth to the millions around the world who don’t yet have his Word,’ the page reads.

CCTV footage last showed a woman ‘entering an unoccupied restricted area at 2.27am’ on August 8, police said. The room near a terminal for international flights was closed to the public.

Vinton was pronounced dead at the scene and was not immediately identified, but quickly ruled not to be an airport worker.
