With songs like ‘I Try,’ ‘Tonight I Give In,’ ‘I’m On Your Side,’ ‘Angel of the Night,’ and ‘This Time I’ll Be Sweeter’ among her most memorable hits, Angela Bofill was undoubtedly one of the sweetest voices of 70’s and 80’s R&B/Jazz.
Fans of the performer are clinging to her timeless tunes in her memory after a rep took to press Friday (June 14) to confirm she passed away on Thursday (June 13).
Rich Engel, Bofill’s friend and manager, confirmed to PEOPLE the singer-songwriter died Thursday morning at her daughter’s home in Vallejo, California.
“ON BEHALF OF MY DEAR FRIEND ANGIE, I AM SADDENED TO ANNOUNCE HER PASSING ON THE MORNING OF JUNE 13TH,” a Facebook post from her manager and friend Rich Engel read before adding, “JUST TO CLEAR UP THE CONFUSION. ON BEHALF OF SHAUNA BOFILL, HUSBAND CHRIS PORTUGUESE, WE ARE SADDENED BUT MUST REPORT THAT THE PASSING OF ANGELA YESTERDAY IS INDEED TRUE. WE THANK MELBA MOORE AND MAYSA FOR THEIR EARLY CONDOLENCES. THANKs FOR YOUR MANY POST.”
The news follows her previously reported health complications including two strokes in 2006 and 2007 respectively.
