This could be a perfect meeting.
Manchester alternative rock trio [slab] have added the high octane vocals of Cass, frontperson of garage punk duo The Sewer Cats. The result is a thrilling slice of post punk post hardcore full of dynamics and an explosive chorus. The single, Defibrillator, was initially conceived as an instrumental track and regularly played in the [slab] live set; Defibrillator features driving guitars, powerful drums, and a menacing middle-eight, all delivered with an intensity and urgency that make Defibrillator a stand-out track.
Recognising the potential for a powerful collaboration, [slab] invited Cass to contribute her ferocious howl and socio-political song writing to Defibrillator. Drawing on inspiration from the title, Cass’ lyrics explore the quest for meaning and purpose in the face of indifference.
[slab] and The Sewer Cats may seem an unlikely musical partnership at first glance. Despite their apparent contrast in music styles, their collaboration is rooted in a firm friendship forged sharing stages, and a love of each other’s music. True to building a sense of a musical community, [slab] and The Sewer Cats’ experiences as grassroots musicians and shared DIY ethics take precedence over genre distinctions.
Defibrillator was recorded in Salford with Pixies/PJ Harvey bassist Simon ‘Ding’ Archer at 6dB studios. The single will be released digitally via all streaming platforms on Friday 5th April. An exclusive release show featuring [slab] and The Sewer Cats will be held at Fuel, Manchester on Saturday 6th April.
