A woman has revealed her simple yet effective trick for preventing condensation on windows, a solution that she claims is the ultimate hack.
In her TikTok video, which has captured the attention of her 60,000 followers, @blooms_abode explains that not only does her method stop condensation, but it also combats mould growth.
She advises: “No gadgets needed. Open your curtains and blinds in the morning. Leave a pot of bicarb [baking soda] on the windowsill. Use a mould spray once every two weeks to keep at bay.”
Demonstrating her routine, she sprays the windowsill with an anti-mould product and then wipes it down.
Bicarb, also known as baking soda, acts by soaking up air moisture. It will solidify over time as it draws in the moisture, signalling it’s time for a fresh batch. Plus, baking soda is a bargain, available for under £1 in UK supermarkets.
While many viewers expressed gratitude for the tip, some suggested there’s an even simpler solution – a dehumidifier. One commenter recommended: “Just buy a dehumidifier, pennies to run, no more condensation.”
Another said: “Buy a Meaco Dehumidifier, takes five litres of moisture out of my house every day and costs pennies to use.”
A different tip came from a user who found success in keeping doors closed: “I was told to close all of the doors to the rooms which have condensation in them and it does help.”
In a subsequent video, the cleaning expert revealed her secret to keeping spiders at bay. She demonstrated how she creates an anti-spider concoction using 10 drops of peppermint oil for every 150ml of water.
She then applies this mixture onto a cloth and meticulously wipes down all her window and door frames, effectively discouraging the eight-legged creatures from entering.
