At least 558 people were killed in Israeli air strikes on Monday, Lebanon’s health minister says

The recent Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon resulted in a staggering death toll of at least 558 individuals on Monday, with casualties including 50 children and 94 women, according to Lebanon’s Health Minister Firass Abiad. As the attacks continued into Tuesday, Abiad emphasized the ongoing nature of the conflict and the responsibilities of the authorities amid the chaos.

The strikes also claimed the lives of four first responders and damaged emergency response capabilities, with 14 ambulances and firetrucks reportedly hit by Israeli forces. The day of attacks left 1,835 people wounded, highlighting the immediate humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region.

Additionally, the violence has forced many to flee their homes, particularly in southern Lebanon, with over 16,500 individuals displaced in just 24 hours. Nasser Yassine, Lebanon’s emergency preparedness coordinator, indicated that around 150 schools are currently being utilized to shelter those displaced by the airstrikes.

The situation remains critical, as the conflict continues to escalate, exacerbating the humanitarian impact on the civilian population.
