Police in Birmingham, Alabama, are offering a $50,000 reward for information leading to an arrest following a deadly shooting that occurred on Saturday night. Four people were killed, and 17 others sustained injuries in the incident.

As of Monday morning, officials continue to search for suspects, reviewing numerous tips from the public. Investigators have labeled the attack as a “hit,” involving multiple gunmen who appeared to target a specific individual.

What Happened

The shooting unfolded just after 11:00 PM local time around Magnolia Avenue South, in the bustling Five Points South nightlife district. Reports indicate the violence erupted as patrons were queuing to enter a hookah and cigar lounge.

Birmingham Police Chief Scott Thurmond characterized the shooting as “targeted,” distancing it from random acts of violence. Eyewitnesses claim that several attackers exited a vehicle and opened fire on the crowd before fleeing. Authorities have recovered approximately 100 shell casings from the scene and believe “machine gun conversion devices” were used.

Birmingham Mayor Randall Woodfin pointed to “Glock switches”—attachments that convert handguns to fire automatically—as a significant public safety concern in the area. The hookah lounge, Hush, expressed its heartbreak over the incident, emphasizing that it had no connection to the venue itself.
